The challenge

The core technical challenge was making the mobile app talk simultaneously, stably and securely with two or more physical devices over Bluetooth. With a high-power stimulator offering 130 intensity levels and unlimited customisable programmes across muscle zones, software error was not an option. Critical requirements were clear: frictionless pairing, zero lag on real-time commands, and strict logical safety protocols so a Bluetooth drop never risks or desynchronises device state.

The solution

We built a native mobile architecture optimised for BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy), keeping phone and Tesmed device battery use low during training or recovery sessions.

Key design choices:

  • Multi-device orchestration: A parallel connection engine synchronises data packets to each stimulator independently, letting users adjust intensity in real time across body zones asynchronously or from a central control.
  • Programme management algorithm: A flexible system creates and stores unlimited custom programmes (frequencies, durations, EMS wave types) on the local app database and translates them instantly into hex command strings the hardware firmware understands.
  • Failsafe core: Continuous connection heartbeat logic sends a priority safety command to freeze or power down the stimulator if the phone disconnects or moves out of range — protecting experience and user safety.
